This bag was designed to meet the size requirements for an airline “personal carryon item”. The
approximate completed size is 12 inches tall, 16 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. This will meet the
requirements for about 95% of the airlines, but checking ahead of time is always a good idea. There are
pockets on the sides for water bottles, or umbrellas, etc. There is a large open topped pocket on the
front with a zippered pocket in front. There is a wide luggage strap on the back to put over the handle
of your carryon bag and a zippered pocket on that strap to hold your ID and/or phone or ticket as you
pass through TSA. There is a large padded zippered pocket on the inside to hold laptops/iPads and any
important papers.

Fabric selection – main outside fabric works best with a non-directional fabric – large pattern fabrics
(like Kaffe Fassett) work well, inside fabric should be light colored – I prefer something like newsprint
because inside stitching lines do not readily show – an accent color will be at the top of pockets and
bindings on the inside and outside. You will need 1 yard of each of these fabrics. (Note: if you prefer
not to use accent fabric for the interior binding, add 3/8 yard of the interior fabric and you then need
only 5/8 to ¾ yard of accent fabric)
